Turkish Cargo beats the February blues with demand

Turkish Cargo managed to record an increase in cargo demand in February despite the overall industry reporting a decrease.

The airline said its cargo volumes increased by 9.6% year on year during the month, according to figures from analyst WorldACD, while the overall industry registered a 5.8% decrease.

During the first two months of the year, the airline has seen cargo demand increase by 4.3% on a year earlier, while it was the seventh busiest airline in the world in February.

Turkish Airlines chairman of the board and the executive committee İlker Aycı said: “We are happy about the continuous rise of Turkish Cargo in the global air cargo market. We can’t say that the success we achieved during the first two months of 2019 was a surprise.

The airline is currently in the process of moving from Atatürk Airport to Istanbul Airport. At the moment it is operating at both facilities with a trucking operation transporting cargo between the two.

Eventually, it will have a handling capacity of 4m tonnes when all phases of the new airport are completed.
