Unite calls off Heathrow strike after new pay offe

Trade union Unite has suspended plans for a strike at London Heathrow after a new pay deal was put forward.

The union, representing over 4,000 workers at the airport, had threatened strike action on 26-27 July in the first of a series of planned walkouts.

Talks under the Acas conciliation service to resolve the conflict had been going on since mid-month.

Arrangements for the ballot are currently being made, says the union.

Heathrow has welcomed Unite's move to suspend the late-July strike. "The proposed deal provides significantly above-inflation pay rises for all colleagues," says the airport. "We believe this offer is rewarding and importantly gives our colleagues long-term wage certainty and job security."
