 According to the latest data from Clarkson, in the first quarter of this year, the global new ship orders totaled 196 and 5.73 million CGT, a decrease of 42% compared with the 9.96 million CGT in the same period last year.

Among them, Chinese ship companies received orders for 35 new ships, totaling 2.58 million CGT, ranking the first in the world in terms of orders, accounting for about 45% of the global market share. Followed by the Korean shipping companies, the number of orders received is 35, 1.62 million CGT, equivalent to about 28% of the global market share. The third place in the order is the Italian shipbuilding company, a total of 10 ships, 78,000 CGT, accounting for 14% of the market; Japanese shipbuilding ranked fourth, receiving a total of 20 ships, 470,000 CGT, accounting for 8% of the market share .

In January of this year, South Korea ranked second in new orders, ranking behind China, surpassing China in February and being overtaken by China again in March.

Statistics show that as of the end of March this year, global shipping companies held orders for 81.18 million CGT, an increase of 350,000 CGT from the previous month.

It is worth mentioning that among the three countries of China, Japan and Korea, only the number of orders held by Chinese shipbuilding companies has increased compared with that in February, while the orders held by Japan and South Korea have experienced different degrees of decline. Among them, Korean shipbuilding orders decreased by 270,000 CGT compared with the previous month, Japanese shipbuilding orders decreased by 510,000 CGT, while Chinese shipbuilding orders increased by 620,000 CGT.

Up to now, the number of orders held by Chinese shipbuilding companies still ranks first in the world, with a total of 29.92 million CGT; the second is Korean ship companies with a total of 21.33 million CGT; Japanese ship companies ranked third with a total of 14.18 million CGT.
